Happy February!

IMG_5972Happy first day of February! One thing that often comes to mind when this month emerges is Valentine’s Day. While I am not necessarily a fan of Hallmark holidays so much, I AM a fan of the celebration of love!! In that respect, I wish for you to celebrate this month of love in a slightly different way this year: celebrating the love that you have for yourself and allowing that love to grow and grow in palpable magnificence.

I have indeed been on my active journey of enlightenment and discovery of Self for many years, and have reached levels of self-awareness and self-love over the past couple that I had never truly conceived possible prior to my embarking on this odyssey. However, many years ago, early on in my endeavors, when I began to explore these notions more seriously, I had a moment that really helped to solidify the extremely important notion of self-love. I was driving down the road in the mountains of NC in my truly missed Jeep :). I had made a mix on my new iPod of a few hundred songs and put it on shuffle to play them at random. Soon after, the Etta James song “At Last” came on, and I sat peacefully listening to her beautiful voice. Then it dawned on me to listen to this powerful song and message in a new light – as if the lyrics were being sung to myself, from myself:

“At last my love has come along, my lonely days are over and life is like a song…the skies above are blue, my heart wrapped up in clover…I found a dream that I could speak to, a dream that I can call my own, I found a thrill to press my cheek to, a thrill that I have never known…and here we are in heaven”

Upon this shift in perspective, a warmth filled my body and soul that I’ll never forget – I realized that although I was to bask in the light of the love given to me by those whom I care about and whom truly care about me, the most important vessel and source of love was to come from ME, TO ME! I sat with this notion for a few years actually, until it began to truly solidify and I began to awaken to truly living this…truly living each day with a firm and unwavering compassion, reverence, and glorifying love for myself. From this seed, the rest truly began to blossom in my discoveries of my own self-worth and value, and hence being led to those aspects that were truly fulfilling to me and actualized my True Potential as a unique and valuable soul here on earth in this life. From there, the sky is the limit, and my dreams and goals have escalated to levels that are nothing short of magical.

You see, we are all, each and every one of us, a unique and valuable soul – and the most important person for you to wake up each day and say “thank you, I love you!” IS YOURSELF! No matter what happens in your life, you will always have yourself, and if you are able to build the most loving, supportive, compassionate, and trusting relationship with yourself, than your ability to attain equanimity and peace in any and all periods of your life with soar to brilliant and harmonious levels.

I believe a lot of times, people can get turned off by this idea and not investigate it further due to their misunderstanding of what this truly means. Loving yourself first is not being selfish, it is the exact opposite in fact – as you can not truly and deeply love another until this is instilled in your soul to begin with. Here is a wonderful quote that exemplifies this notion further:

“There is a big difference between loving yourself and being selfish. When you truly understand what it is to know and love yourself, you cannot help but to love and serve others. When you understand this at the core level of your being, you will be on the path Home” –Hidden Hand

As your own self-love grows, your natural inclination is to share this abounding and electric love with everyone around you, and serve others through your most cherished gifts. This point certainly became solidified in me when I discovered that I wanted to be a healer in this life…which this realization wasn’t born until a notable level of self-love and value was established within my Whole Being prior. Whatever your trade may be – a salesman, an artist, a musician, a healer, a waitress, a computer technician, an administrator, a mother, a business person – will grow in notable value and meaning once you solidify your self-love and self-worth, as your ability to serve others and give to the world and your community will be a default mode, something you feel called to do. Even if you haven’t yet discovered your true passions and calling yet, I assure you that opening the door to this exceptionally worthy avenue will allow you to make these discoveries much sooner. As can be seen here, self-love is far from being selfish, it is in fact the most giving accomplishment that one can make.

Overall, as the month of February commences and you are infiltrated with hearts and signs of Valentine’s Day, I wish for you to look at this celebration of love in a new light – that this year, and every year after, you are going to LOVE YOURSELF FIRST and the love and warmth that you are able to give to others will reach wonderful levels of beauty indeed.

Wake up each morning and look in the mirror and say to yourself, Good morning, self! I love you endlessly, completely, and unconditionally. Thank you so much for being who you are, I value you greatly and I am so proud of you always.”

You might feel a little silly doing this at first, but I assure you it gets easier and way more fun as these notions become part of who you are and how you live!

Enjoy this celebration of love, and I wish you all of the very best in your journey, today and everyday,

Megan ❤
